In a small town sat a man and young girl
He told of places he'd been in the world
The girl sat listening as dreams filled her head
The old man looked at her and said;
Chorus
Katie, your not my little girl anymore, you know that our lives won't be like before
Soon you'll be leaving to find your own life, And make some man a very good wife.
So the years went on slowly and as each day passed
Katie saw that her papa was nearing his last
One day she went in, on his chest laid her head
He held her hand tightly and said;
Chorus
Katie your not my little girl anymore, you know that our lives won't be like before
Soon you'll be leaving to find your own life, And make some man a very good wife
But she said papa I won't leave you
and I don't believe you, it's something that I'd never do
I want to stay here by your side, I don't want to be any man's bride
Papa died the next morning as they laid him to rest
She prayed with her heart for the man they had blessed
She thought of his love and the life they had led
Embracing the last words he said;
Chorus
Katie your not my little girl anymore, you know that our lives won't be like before
Soon you'll be leaving to find your own life, And make some man a very good wife
And she said papa I must leave you
And I do believe you it's something that I have to do
I know you'll be right by my side, with your blessing I'll be some man's bride.
