Inside Your Mind

(Sheri Timsak)
Sheri Timsak
I saw an old man sitting on a park bench today,
his head held high toward the sky, as he passed the time away
his eyes were shut, his breathing hard, as if he were asleep
memories were in his mind, that was all that he could keep.
I sat down to watch, the pigeons they took to the sky
The park was bare, without a care alone we sat, he and I
I didn't know quite what to say so I sat quiet and still
a pigeon landed at my feet as if by the old man's will
Lifting my head and turning to face the old man
Searching out a meaning I began to understand
His hand touched mine, he held it tight, hoping I would see
Drawing in a peaceful breath, this is what he said to me
Chorus
Never fly too high that you can never land
Never be too selfish that you can't understand
There's a world of foolish non-believers and many of this kind
But you will know the right direction if you look inside your mind
As I left the old man, believing what he had to say
The look on his face, held a trace of tbe smile of youthful play
He knows so well, tbe words he tells, have touched my heart today I'll remember what he said to me should I ever lose my way Chorus
Never fly too high that you can never land Never be too selfish that you can't understand
There's a world of foolish non-believers and many of this kind But you will know the right direction if you look inside your mind
